The Sustainability Center links students from nearby colleges with non-profit organizations, government agencies, and green businesses to complete sustainability projects here in Tompkins County. The internships provide mutually beneficial experiences: students develop key employment skills and immerse themselves in the community, while organizations grow from the assistance and time of innovative students.
The Sustainability Internship Program is preparing for 2016 placements!
We are matching students from local institutions of higher education with non-profit organizations, government agencies, and green businesses to complete sustainability projects here in Tompkins County.
To date, 65 students have been placed in 32 sites across the county through the Sustainability Internship Program. Students have developed skills in education, analysis, fundraising, marketing, and project management, to name a few, and have tackled projects in the areas of composting, energy planning, wood smoke assessments, waste reduction, greening operations, and wetlands development, among others.
Are you interested in impacting your local community, while developing key employment skills?
As participants in the Sustainability Internship Program, STUDENTS MUST COMMIT TO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Participation in pre-placement orientation
2. Completion of pre- and post- internship surveys
3. On-going communication with your host supervisor & student volunteer coordinator
4. Compile a photo documentary of your internship experience using your medium of choice, and
5. A presentation demonstrating the impact of your work at the end of the semester.
